The series INNERFACES by FAR is a fascinating exploration of transforming 3D surfaces from generated worlds into paintings. In these works, FAR applies multiple layers of acrylic paint and resin to the back of the paintings. These layers are then intricately carved out using a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine.
The creation of these pieces is divided into three distinct steps. The first step involves crafting the actual canvas, a meticulous process where FAR builds up layers of paint and resin on the back of the painting. The second step is terrain generation, in which FAR employs a unique method for world building. Finally, the paintings are sculpted using a CNC, a process that is comparatively fast and intense. The artworks distinctly embody this dynamic and transformative process.
